WHAT TO EXPECT IN THIS POSITION

As a Project Engineer, you will work on a variety of transportation projects, from rural highways to urban streets and interstates. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Design & Engineering: Lead and support roadway design tasks, including geometric layout, grading, and drainage analysis.
  • Project Development: Prepare roadway design plans, specifications, and cost estimates in compliance with local, state, and federal standards.
  • Technical Analysis & Reports: Conduct engineering analysis, feasibility studies, and prepare comprehensive design documentation.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to develop efficient, cost-effective solutions.
  • Project Support: Assist in budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and client communication to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications

We are looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate has:

  • Education and Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field) with a Professional Engineering (PE) license in Montana, or ability to obtain within six months.
  • Experience: 4-8 years of progressive experience in roadway design, ideally with projects for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) or Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D with a deep understanding of DOT, FHWA, AASHTO, and local transportation design standards.
  • Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple tasks effectively. Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.
